Healer Eirlys? This is Councilor LeBlanc and I've a proposition for you.
[ Under her voice there's the sound of papers rustling, the scrape of pen over the page. ]
In light of recent excursions the Inquisition has, to my mind, a greater need for a full store of potions, salves, and poultices than before and I had thought to expand the workshop to craft said items to more than once a week to keep up with the demand- and it occurred to me that having a single healer to mind both for the sake of consistency would be far better than swapping instructions twice a week, if not more if we continue into such dangerous territory.
You are one of the most diligent, intuitive, and perceptive healers I have met- and I think you should be the one to mind the workshops.
[It takes Eirlys a moment to realise that, yes, Adelaide really does mean her. She always thinks of herself as just trying to do the best job she can, and she's quietly proud of the reflection on her character that seems to have made.]
I'd be honoured to, if you're really sure. Is there anything I should be aware of in running them?
Somehow he managed to cause an entirely benign potion to explode. I do not know how but- to prevent further mishaps? He is not to join. There is a log where we keep count of how many of each potion, salve, poultice, or ointment is created and a weekly stock of herbs set aside to be used for these- I've everything written down for my own use and I shall happily offer you these notes. Included are the current steps and techniques for crafting which- are to my knowledge- the most effective means for potency.
However if in your experience you know of better still techniques? Please share them and adjust the notes accordingly.
That seems like quite the achievement. [She tries to work out what he'd put in there, but can't quite fathom it.] I'll make sure he stays far away.
[She turns bright red as Adelaide mentions her notes, shifting uncomfortably, as no matter how good they were she would be entirely incapable of reading them.]
Perhaps I could assign someone to keep them up to date.
That may save you quite a bit of time, actually. Take it from someone that is only just recalling the wonders of delegation: If it is not vital, can save you pain, and will be a more effective use of time to have someone else manage? There is no shame in passing along the task.
I know the feeling well. But there is simply too much that needs to be done for us to see to everything ourselves, yes? This is the wiser course, if the less familiar.
If it's not overstepping to ask, may I come to you for help if needed? The poultices I can handle, of course, but there's much I don't know, particularly about healing magical injuries.
[A little tentative-sounding, because this is the first time she's used a sending crystal for anything one-on-one.]
Eirlys Ancarrow? This is Inessa Serra, of the Grey Wardens...and long ago, of the Denerim alienage. I wish to speak to you in your capacity as liaison.
[Eirlys is a little nervous too, unused to giving this sort of advice or as thinking of herself as 'official' in any capacity. Still, she greets Inessa with a smile that she hopes is both friendly and reassuring.]
Well meet, Warden Serra. I'm glad to offer whatever assistance I can.
Thank you. Now that we're here, I've noticed the tension in the elven sections of Halamshiral, especially near where it's scarred most. People speak of rebuilding and repairing, which is important, but more than just buildings were destroyed. I've seen resentment -nothing violent- directed at the progress being made, and worry that it might do more harm than good to continue if the opinions of local leaders haven't been sought. It's their community, after all.
[Sigh.] I...don't know if I'm the right person to bring any of this to your attention. I haven't lived in an alienage for a very long time. I don't know how best to assist them. But I hope you do, and urge the Inquisition in that direction.
I quite agree. I know that if outside forces had come into Gwaren, no matter how good their intentions, we'd have been just as wary. It's a fine balance between directing the repair efforts and undermining the community leaders, and I'm not quite sure where that balance lies just yet, but I will do my utmost to make sure they are respected and included.
I'm truly grateful to hear this. I don't want to speak for anyone, but if I had to venture a guess, the resentment might stem from fear that repairs done will be Orlais' excuse to forget it ever happened. Denial is easy once evidence is out of sight. But there could be other, underlying reasons.
You have my word, we will not let them forget. I intend to make the Inquisition the voice of the downtrodden above all others. I fear myself that we will fix things up and move onto the next problem to solve, and things will return here to the way they've always been. I won't let that happen.
Good. I'm told of the Inquisition's previous focus in the Fallow Mire and the Western Approach, places that did not have any real population left, let alone a city in the heart of Orlais. This will require a different, more careful, approach. As long as the Inquisition remembers that, then...perhaps it will work.
I'm no diplomat or spy, just a Warden mage with a mabari. But if assistance is needed, I would gladly contribute.
You're right - there's been more leeway to take a heavy hand before, but this requires some subtlety. I have faith in Sister Nightingale and Lady Montilyet to advise their agents as such, but I'm not sure myself how the Inquisition at large will take to a more delicate operation. Any advice or assistance would be gratefully received.
The more of their fellow elves the locals see among the Inquisiton, the better. They have to know we're involved, that we're being treated here far better than what they might have expected. Maker knows what rumors might have reached them until now, with even Chantry mothers accusing us of heresy. We have to counter that with the truth.
Unfortunately the truth is so often only what the majority have chosen to believe. [Even if every elf in the Inquisition banded together, she's sure there would still be many other voices that shouted louder than them.] We'll just have to make sure we're the ones they listen to.

I'm not used to asking for help, it doesn't sit easily with me. But you're right, not only would it be efficient but it would save me a headache too.
